Great News: AMC and Lionsgate TV Closing in on Negotiations With 'Mad Men' Creator Matthew Weiner "If you don't like what's being said, change the conversation."

As we reported back in January, after a stellar awards season for "Mad Men," the series' creator Matthew Weiner returned to the negotiation table with AMC and Lionsgate TV, hoping to bring about a new season of the highly rated show under more favorable terms.

At the time, he told Entertainment Weekly "I have every intention of making the show when they decide to work out their business with Lionsgate.  I can’t wait to come back to work. I have said over and over in public that I want the show to go on and on and on until it has worn out its welcome with viewers and we can’t think of anything more for the characters to do."

Well good news, "Mad Men" fans - the conversation has changed and it sounds like Weiner's back.

According to Deadline, "after months of negotiations over compensation (Weiner had been asking for a lot more than what he got under the a rich pact he inked with Mad Men producer Lionsgate TV and AMC 2 years ago), the sides are said to be finally nearing a deal."

While this undoubtedly (and thankfully) means game on for a new season with the series' creator at the helm, it also means we're likely to see a fall premiere, as opposed to the regular summer run. Virtually all of the significant series stars are involved in shooting other projects currently.

We'd like a little more certainty around the situation (like, say, an official release from AMC with confirmed details), but any progress is good progress, and if we have to wait a little while, then so be it. As long as Weiner and Co. follow Don Draper's lead, we're all good:

"We're going to sit at our desks and keep typing while the walls fall down around us because we're creative - the least important, most important thing there is."
