The 2012 Golden Globes: Watch Ricky Gervais' Insult-Laden Opening Monologue (VIDEO)

The 2012 Golden Globes: Watch Ricky Gervais' Insult-Laden Opening Monologue (VIDEO) Ricky Gervais once again took the stage to host the Golden Globes Sunday night, and the result was more or less the same as last year: a whole lot of insults and zingers aimed at pretty much anyone (who deserved it, anyway).

"Where was I?" Gervais began as he approached the microphone and began the show. It was a simple yet effective way to comment on everything that happened last year -- the insults, the controversy, the "ban," the re-hiring -- and indicate that no, he was not going to tone it down this year.

Gervais once again took shots at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, likening them to the characters in "Boardwalk Empire" as "immigrants" who "bribed their way into high society."

Gervais also leveled a few blows at the network airing the event, noting that the HFPA was a "non-profit organization... just like NBC."

Even the Globes themselves were a target, as Gervais noted their inferiority to the Oscars. "The Golden Globes are to the Oscars as Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton," he quipped.

The monologue was a bit short on insults of people in the room, though, so it looks as though Gervais decided to level his attacks more at the HFPA and Hollywood in general, rather than at specific people. But he still managed to fit a few in, and even confronted Johnny Depp about whether or not he had seen "The Tourist."
