'Glee' Season 3, Episode 10 Recap & Song List - 'Yes/No'

'Glee' Season 3, Episode 10 Recap & Song List - 'Yes/No' Proposals! Shocking revelations! Horrible guest stars! This episode had it all. Oh my goodness, where to begin?

Right, how about with the opening number? Mercedes and Sam take us by the hand and lead us through "Summer Nights" from "Grease." I guess nobody cared about the fact that the lyrics to this song don't really work in this context, since these two already knew each other before their fling. Also, does this mean that Mercedes and Sam had sex? If so, why didn't they get a big episode like Kurt/Blaine and Rachel/Finn did? Oh, right, because Chord Overstreet quit the show.

Anywho, the theme of the day is relationships and telling people how you feel, hence the title "Yes/No," which I assume is a nod to those notes you would pass in middle school saying do you like me, check yes or no. Funny enough, the maturity level of everyone involved in this episode, even the adults, is about at that same 7th grade stage, so it works.

First off, Beiste eloped with Cooter after a lovely dinner at Taco Bell. A bit impulsive I suppose, but good for them. That gets Emma thinking about whether Will is going to ask her to marry him, to which Sue suggests she should propose to him and be all modern woman about it. Then, we get to hear Emma sing! Treats!

Problem, though: why the holy heck is Sue being so nice this episode? She congratulates Beiste with barely an insult, and then gives Emma some honest advice minus any snarky follow-ups about Will's general ickiness? And later, with the flower, hoo boy was THAT out of character.

The kids are all having their own relationship issues as well. Sam is hung up on Mercedes, who later learns that she's still in love with him too, and not her current boyfriend Shane. Artie gets asked out by Becky, and enjoys hanging out with her, but doesn't want to date her.

Side note: Becky, played by Lauren Potter, is sneakily becoming the new Sue. As Sue's zingers go away, Becky's get sharper. Plus, the bit this episode with her inner monologue being narrated by Helen Mirren was just awesome. End side note.

And then, somehow, in the midst of all this lovey stuff, Finn announces he's thinking of joining the Army, and his mom casually informs him that his father, who Finn thought had died during a tour of duty, was dishonorably discharged, suffered from PTSD, got addicted to drugs and then overdosed. And then this show got tremendously dark and depressing.

So to pick things back up, we get a synchronized swimming routine to "We Found Love" by Rihanna as Will proposes to Emma. This includes Will dressing up in a white tuxedo and literally walking on water. What is happening?

Emma says yes, and that's all fine and dandy. Then Finn decides to pop the question to Rachel in the auditorium. Is it cute? Yes. Is his speech romantic? Yes, and delivered much more honestly than Will's. Is it a good idea? Meh, probably not. First of all, they're pretty young and they haven't figured out where they'll be after high school. Second of all, if these characters are going to continue to be relevant as the show goes on, you need them to get engaged LATER. Save it, man. "The Office" went downhill after Jim proposed to Pam. Put it off as long as you can!

Highlights/Lowlights:

-Highlight: Will asking Finn to be his best man. That was really cute. But it was also kind of sad, because Will clearly has no adult friends who are men. Bummer, man.

-Lowlight: That cameo from NeNe Leakes. Completely unnecessary, and horrible to watch. Yes, she's loud and a little ridiculous. We get it. Keep her on reality TV where she belongs.

-Highlight: People singing about their feelings. See? It can be done! These songs can mean something and be entertaining!

-Lowlight: When Rachel starts singing her feelings in the restaurant, then we cut to the choir room. The damn choir room! So boring! But the spotlight was kinda nice.

-Highlight: Everything Jayma Mays does, ever. MORE EMMA!
