'Glee' Renewed for Two More Seasons
by Zack WellsFox has announced that “Glee” will be renewed for two more seasons, taking us well into 2015.
According to the press release put out by Fox, “’Glee’ debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground, and have a significant impact on popular culture.”
Their decision was based (mostly) on the ratings from this latest season. “This season, originals of ‘Glee’ are averaging a 3.6/10 among Adults 18-49 and 8.7 million Total Viewers. ‘Glee’ is a Top 10 comedy among Adults 18-49, a Top 10 show overall among Adults 18-34 and the No. 1 show overall on broadcast television among Teens.”
It might be important to note that “Glee”, with over 500 songs produced, has managed to sell over 53 million song downloads and over 13 million albums worldwide. Taking a step back and thinking about it, Fox would have been silly to cancel such a massive source of income.
Whether or not people watch the show, or even like it, seems to be irrelevant. The ratings indicate that it is popular, and it is making a pretty penny. As long as there is money to be made, you can expect the show to stick around.
It will certainly be interesting to see how they handle the upcoming plot lines (if you can call them that) when series regular Cory Monteith is still in rehab. Naturally, we wish him a speedy recovery, and hope to see him back on his feet soon enough.
The new season of “Glee” will be joining “Bones”, “The Following”, “New Girl”, “The Mindy Project”, and “Raising Hope” this upcoming fall. Keep your eyes peeled for any new casting updates.
