'Glee' and 'Modern Family' Both Win GLAAD Awards

'Glee' and 'Modern Family' Both Win GLAAD Awards GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) found itself in a tough position last night: it had to choose between "Glee" and "Modern Family" in awarding an Oustanding Comedy Series at the annual GLAAD Awards. So, how did they solve the dilemma?

Simple: give the award to both of them.

Yes, both "Glee" and "Modern Family" were lauded Sunday night by GLAAD for their portrayals of homosexual characters on primetime comedy television. The joint award was accepted by "Glee" stars Chris Colfer (Kurt) and Mike O'Malley (Burt) as well as "Modern Family" stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, and Ariel Winter.

Other winners on the evening included Bravo-turned-Lifetime series "Project Runway," the Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor movie "I Love You Phillip Morris," and NBC president Robert Greenblatt, who helped produce "Shameless," "Six Feet Under," and "The L Word."

"Glee" guest star Kristin Chenoweth was honored with the Vanguard Award for defending openly gay actors after a writer for Newsweek critiqued "Glee" guest Jonathan Groff and "Will and Grace" alum Sean Hayes for not playing convincing straight roles.

This was the second round of awards from GLAAD, who presents in a three-part series in three cities. Last month, "True Blood" and others were honored in New York City, and next month will bring the awards to San Francisco.
