'Glee' Adele Mash-Up Gives Show An iTunes Sales Boost

'Glee' Adele Mash-Up Gives Show An iTunes Sales Boost Tuesday's "Glee" might've helped invigorate the show's relevance to the music world at large.

The mash-up of Adele's "Someone Like You" and "Rumor Has It" sung by Naya Rivera and Amber Riley has hit the number-one slot on iTunes' sales charts this week, according to TVLine.

There's also the possibility that it might eclipse the second season's Gwyneth Paltrow cover of Cee-Lo Green's "Forget You" as the best-selling "Glee" single of the show's three seasons.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it doesn't hurt that Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album, Vol. 2 is No. 4 on the iTunes album-sales chart. The first volume of Christmas tunes, released in 2010, moved 1 million copies over a six-week span.

According to TVLine's report, it's one timely boost: though entertaining, this season's string of "West Side Story" covers has been well-received by critics but haven't been generating many downloads.

The site hints that the show may soon resume its fixation on pop music, as opposed to Broadway mainstays. Upcoming episodes are said to feature covers of Rihanna's recent smash "We Found Love" and even Michael Jackson's legendary feel-good single "Man In The Mirror." Another mash-up will soon collide Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" in probably most-apropos fashion with Destiny's Child's "I'm A Survivor."

It's good to see "Glee" back in its wheelhouse. Remember the moments in Season Two, in which the New Directions kids got restless because they were quite frankly sick and tired of being sick and tired of Journey - no matter how great the songs were? Well, that's how I've felt about the glut of "West Side Story" selections. What made "Glee" so great has been its surprisingly deft handling of a full range of pop music, classic to contemporary, and everything in between. It's great to see the kids paying homage to Broadway's best, but come on. There's a good reason Paltrow's covers have been among the show's best received.

They're just doing justice to fun, catchy songs most will recognize, not just the aficionados of the Great White Way.
