'Girls' Character Leaves Show After Differences With Lena Dunham

'Girls' Character Leaves Show After Differences With Lena Dunham Despite things looking up for Charlie and Marnie where they left off last season, things may not go where down the rosy road where they seemed to be headed.

Christopher Abbott has announced he will be leaving “Girls,” removing his character Charlie from the equation.

Why the sudden departure?

Sources say that Abbot was at odds with showrunner Lena Dunham.

New York Post broke the story, and sources from the show say “They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena. He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”

His rep confirmed the news: "[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show."

Another source said, "He's sure the show will continue to do well, but as far as his character, he wasn't behind where it was going to end up."

They added, "Chris was reluctant to do the show from the get go. He's a really great actor, the source material from the beginning was great and he was grateful to Lena. But he's at a point now where he has too many great film parts being offered to him to turn them down for something he's not 100 percent satisfied with… He feels good about his decision."

What will this mean for Charlie and Marnie, who just wrapped up season 2 happy together. Marnie told him, "I want to make you a snack every night. And I eventually want to have your little brown babies and eventually I want to watch you die.”

Maybe she didn’t realize his demise would come so soon.
