Gilmore Girls Revival: Finally, the Four Words

Gilmore Girls Revival: Finally, the Four Words

Ten years ago, the creator of Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino, revealed that she knew exactly how she wanted to end the series, down to the last four words that would be uttered on the show. Unfortunately, Sherman-Palladino had already left the series because of a contract dispute, and she wasn't involved in the final season. The show didn't end the way that its creator had envisioned, and we never heard the four words.

Over the years, Sherman-Palladino has refused to reveal what the words were, in the hope that someday she'd have a chance to revisit the story and construct the ending she'd always planned. Now, that looks like some superb foresight, because Netflix's revival of Gilmore Girls gives Sherman-Palladino the opportunity to do just that.

Last week, Yanic Truesdale, who plays Michel, confessed that he's read the last line of the revival's script, and he confirms that the four words are in there, news that's sure to make any Gilmore Girls fan swoon.

Sherman-Palladino has expressed concern that the anticipation over the words may be giving them more weight than they deserve, but fans can at least be assured that, if they're up to the standards of Gilmore Girls in its prime, even if the words aren't epic, they'll at least be a well-written line.

The bad news is that if Sherman-Palladino is seeing fit to use the words, it means she sees the Netflix revival as the end of the Gilmore Girls line, instead of the beginning of a new era.
