Is 'Gilmore Girls' a Giant Hit for Netflix?

The revival of Gilmore Girls on Netflix inspired more anticipation than almost anything scheduled to hit TV this fall. Now we're getting some indication of the reaction to the revival miniseries, and unlike the season premiere of The Walking Dead, it looks like viewers think Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was worthy of the hype.

According to media-statistics company Symphony Advanced Media, A Year in the Life is the third-most-watched new series on Netflix this year, behind the first season of Fuller House and the fifth season of Orange is the New Black. Fuller House, Symphony says, got 7.3 million views immediately following its debut, and OITNB pulled in 5.8 million views. Gilmore Girls got 5 million views in its first three days, and there's some indication that the series could remain strong longer than both Fuller House and OITNB.

It's wise to view Symphony's numbers with some skepticism, though. The company uses unproven technology to calculate its numbers, and it uses a small sample size to extrapolate broad viewership totals. Netflix itself, the only entity that has indisputable viewership numbers, has called Symphony's data "remarkably inaccurate."

That doesn't mean that Gilmore Girls isn't a huge hit. It just means that, like always, only Netflix knows for sure.
