'Gilmore Girls' Creator to Get Amazon Pilot

Amazon announced this week that it is backing five new pilots that could turn into series on its Amazon Prime streaming service. Among those pilots is a comedy-drama created by the woman behind Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Sherman-Palladino's pilot will be entitled The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and will follow the adventures of one of the earliest female stand-up comics in the 1950s. Sherman-Palladino will write and produce the pilot; there is no word yet who will be cast in the show's lead role.

Among the other pilots being developed by Amazon Studios are a supernatural drama produced by Gullermo del Toro, a space drama directed by Kevin MacDonald, a superhero comedy, and a political thriller written by Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz. All five of the pilots

Sherman-Palladino is currently working on post production on a four-episode revival of GIlmore Girls on Netflix. That series will debut sometime later this year, although no firm release date has yet been set.

Amazon has not given details about its plans for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, either; the company's order is only for a pilot, and there's no indication that the pilot will definitely air on the Amazon Prime service. Last year, though, Amazon was exceptionally kind to its pilots, picking up all of them with series orders.
