The long-rumored reboot is confirmed as of today, with Paul Feig directing and Kate Dippold writing; that's the same team that brought you "The Heat," so you know the new "Ghostbusters" is going to be funny.

The project has gone through many forms as rumors came and went. Originally, there was talk of it being a true sequel to "Ghostbusters 2" and bringing back the original cast of Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray. However, Murray was hesitant to get on board, and the death of Ramis forced the production to take a different direction.

Now, the movie will be a reboot with a new generation of paranormal exterminators, and it looks like the team will be all or mostly women. Feig took to Twitter to make the announcement himself.

"It's official," he wrote. "I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call."

Considering Feig is directing and Dippold is writing, that all but guarantees that Melissa McCarthy will star. She's been talked about ever since Feig came on board, since the two worked together on "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids." It's a good bet that she'll be the first actress to be approached for a role.

We're still pulling for a Bill Murray cameo as a ghost, but we'll take anything Feig and Dippold want to throw at us.
