Get Your First Look at 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron'

"Avengers" fans, assemble!

Here it is, your first glimpse at the long-awaited "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron."

The second "Avengers" flick will find our heroes a little weary of world-saving. Enter Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.), with a new invention - Ultron, a "self-aware, self-teaching artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark's Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead."

So what's the problem?

Well, Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) will inevitably decide that we humans are the worst threat to ourselves and need to be destroyed. Existential thinking on the part of a robot, eh?

Director Joss Whedon explains:

"Ultron sees the big pictures and he goes, 'Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better."

He's not trying to "rule," Whedon adds. Just... you know, cleanse the earth and stuff.

"He's on a mission. He wants to save us."

However, Ultron is not just a robot - he's a program, and "capable of uploading himself and disappearing... And he has a bad habit of rebuilding himself into stronger and more fearsome physical forms."

Sounds like the team will have their hands full - so much for vacation time.
