Get Ready for 'Desperados,' a Female 'Hangover' with Isla Fisher

There has been a lot of talk lately about the lack of women in comedy, especially on late-night TV. So the idea of a comedy movie written by a woman, directed by a woman, and starring women is a welcome thought. How does a female version of "The Hangover" sound?

Writer Ellen Rapoport ("The Jamie Kennedy Experiment") penned "Desperados," which follows three women who must make a trip to Las Vegas to "set right a situation that had one of the women leaving a scathing message for a man she actually likes." The script is highly touted, and was on Hollywood's Black List (a list of the best unproduced screenplays) a couple of years back.

The tremendously funny Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers") is set to star, but the other two lead roles have yet to be cast. How that casting goes could really determine who the new comedy heavy-hitters are, just as "The Hangover" sent the careers of Zach Galifinaikis and Bradley Cooper into overdrive.

The latest news for the film is that Betty Thomas has been hired as the director. Thomas had a string of successes with "Private Parts," "Dr. Dolittle," and "28 Days" in the late 90's and early aughts, but her recent credits are a little shaky (for reference, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel").

But whatever her resumé, it's promising to have a female director helming this largely woman-dominated project.
