Universal has dropped a Christmas Day present with the first look at Jordan Peele’s anticipated Us, the follow-up to his Oscar-nominated hit Get Out.
It opens with the Wilson family, Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o) Gabe (Winston Duke) and their children, traveling up the Northern California coast to Adelaide’s childhood beachside home, to the strains of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.” We next see the family on the beach, chatting it up with the Tylers (Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker) when Adelaide notices her young son has wandered off. She finds him staring at a statue-like man standing alone on the beach. (Hint that terrifying things are about to happen).
Cut to later that night when Gabe finds four people holding hands and dressed in red, staring at the house and standing silently at the bottom of their driveway. Gabe approaches with a baseball bat and a warning, “If you wanna get crazy, we can crazy” and crazy it gets when the shadowy figures suddenly invade the Wilsons’ home, trapping them inside.
The trailer reveals a big twist. Turns out the folks in red are actually The Tethered, doppelgängers of the Wilson family, with the actors in dual roles, as the Wilsons come under attack from their counterparts. There also are bunnies – many, many bunnies.
Cast also includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Evan Alex, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Madison Curry, Cali Sheldon and Noelle Sheldon.
