George Clooney: Star Witness in Berlusconi Sex Trial

You don't expect to hear "George Clooney" and "sex trial" in the same sentence often, but here's one: George Clooney has been subpoenaed to testify as a witness in the sex trial of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Berlusconi has been charged with having sex with a minor, as he allegedly paid 17-year-old pole dancer Karima El Mahroug for sexual services. Both Berlusconi and El Mahroug deny that any such transaction, monetarily or sexually, took place.

So why on earth is Clooney involved? The prosecution claims that Clooney and his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis were both present at a party at Berlusconi's villa. Such parties were said to be the scene of orgies and strip shows, and the alleged prostitution would have took place there.

If a crazy orgy at the Prime Minister's villa doesn't sound like a place that Clooney would hang out, then Clooney agrees with you. In fact, the famous actor and humanitarian said, "It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur."

I'm not sure what the prosecution was hoping for here (Clooney would swoop in as Batman and throw Berlusconi in jail himself?) but I'm pretty sure they're not going to get it.
