Gary Oldman's Controversial Playboy Interview Defends Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin

Holy controversy, Batman.

Gary Oldman, who has become an icon in Hollywood for work in films like "The Fifth Element," "The Dark Knight Rises," and pretty much every other great movie, lashed out against - well, just about everything - in a recent Playboy interview.

Oldman most notably defended Mel Gibson's famous anti-Semitic rant, and Alec Baldwin's homophobic slur.

"He got drunk and said a few things, but we've all said those things," he says of Gibson. "We're all f***ing hypocrites. That's what I think about it. The policeman who arrested him has never used the word n***** or that f***ing Jew? I'm being brutally honest here. It's the hypocrisy that drives me crazy."

"Mel Gibson is in a town that's run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he's actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him," he adds. "But some Jewish guy in his office somewhere hasn't turned and said, 'That f****ing kraut' or 'F*** those Germans,' whatever it is?"

Of Alec Baldwin's calling a photographer a "f*g," Oldman says, "I don't blame him."

Somewhere in there he adds, "Oh, f**k the Pope."

Oldman also speaks out against the Golden Globes, which he calls "a meaningless event," reality television, the world and fans in general, and even "The Fifth Element."

"I can't bear it," he says, adding that it's awkward explaining to fans that the movies they like are "s**t."

His business partner and manager Douglas Urbanski has attempted to clarify the interview, claiming that Oldman's beef is actually with political correctness, and notes that Oldman isn't actually defending Gibson, but speaking out about the hypocrisy of the situation.

The nine-hour interview is "crafted by the writer and publication to give the impression of a certain sort of narrative," he explains.

Pretty well-crafted, don't you think?
