Gary Oldman Joins Cast of 'Planet of the Apes' Sequel

Gary Oldman, everyone’s favorite villain, is set to star in the upcoming sequel “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”. He joins the cast along with Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

The film, directed by Matt Reeves, the man behind “Cloverfield”, takes place 15 years after “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. The intelligent apes will have taken over most of the world and wiped out most of humanity, and part of the film centers on a small group of San Fransico based scientists. Together, they hope to form a resistance against their ape overlords. The other part will focus on Andy Serkis’ character of the ape Caesar as he, much like Caesar himself, struggles to maintain order and power in the new land of the apes.

Mark Bomback has written the screenplay. He has a decent action movie background, with films such as “The Wolverine”, “Total Recall”, “Race to Witch Mountain, and “Live Free or Die Hard”, so this film seems fitting to his strengths.

Gary Oldman, who is set to play one of the leaders of the struggling human community, is perhaps most known for his recent roles in “The Dark Knight”, “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Batman Begins”, the upcoming “RoboCop” reboot, and even the “Harry Potter” series.

So what do you think of the “Planet of the Apes” reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” getting a sequel? The series already got a remake by Tim Burton in 2001, with very poor reviews. And the first of the reboot didn’t do so hot, either. Will this sequel be dead in the water?
