'Game of Thrones' Star Cast in Upcoming 'X-Men: Apocalypse'
by Andy Neuenschwander
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the newest members of the X-Men: First Class.
"Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner is one of three new cast members added to the upcoming feature film "X-Men: Apocalypse," the follow-up to "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the hit HBO series, has been cast as a young Jean Grey, one of the mutants in Charles Xavier's academy. Famke Janssen took on the role in the original trilogy of X-Men movies.
Joining Turner are Tye Sheridan, who will play a young Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) and Alexandra Shipp, who will take on the role of Ororo Munroe, aka Storm.
The trio join "Inside Llewyn Davis" star and recent "Star Wars" addition Oscar Isaac, who will play the titular villain Apocalypse. Returning to the cast are the usual lineup of stars in the 1970's-set X-Men storyline, including Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Since the three are playing fairly young teenagers, it's likely that they won't be suiting up as X-Men just yet. However, you can bet that there will be foreshadowing of Jean Grey's future abilities, as well as some problem-solving with Scott's ocular issues.
