'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Could be Delayed
by EG
The news keeps getting worse and worse for Game of Thrones fans. First there was word that the series probably only has two seasons left to go, and then there was the suggestion that each of those seasons will probably have fewer episodes than previous seasons. Now the show's producers are saying they're getting a late start on production of season 7 and that the season will likely air later than usual.
"We don’t have an airdate yet, but this year it’ll probably be a bit later, ’cause we’re starting a bit later," producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told the UFC Unfiltered podcast this week.
The delay is being caused, at least so the pair say, by the weather. Season 7 will take place as winter falls on Westeros, and the production is waiting for a suitably "grim, gray" atmosphere for filming purposes; apparently it's too sunny on location this time of year.
Regardless of the reason, the result is that GoT fans are facing the end of their favorite series, and the showrunners are planning to deliver less and at a later date than the fans have come to expect. Previous seasons of GoT have debuted in October; HBO has not yet commented on the possible delay.
