'Game of Thrones' Officially Renewed for Season 4

'Game of Thrones' Officially Renewed for Season 4 HBO has finally announced (to no one’s surprise at all) that they will be renewing “Game of Thrones” for a fourth season after seeing the amazing ratings for the season 3 premiere. And, for a fun bonus, the fourth season will feature a cameo by the author of the novel series, George R.R. Martin.

“Game of Thrones” returned for its third season this past Sunday and managed to obtain record shattering numbers. 4.4 million people tuned it for the premiere (which aired at the same time as “The Walking Dead” finale), which is a 4% growth over the previous record-shattering record – the season 2 finale.

After factoring in the three repeats of the premiere, a total of 6.7 million people have watched the show, which is up 7% from the season 2 premiere. And this is all up 74% from the season 1 debut. It just goes to show what the power of word of mouth advertising is capable of.

It is commonly believed that Season 3 will cover the first half of the third novel, “A Storm of Swords”, so Season 4 will likely conclude that novel.

While I would love to explain to you what happens in that novel, I’ll hold off. The producers and showrunners for “Game of Thrones” say often that they intend to stay as faithful to the source novels as possible… So if Season 3 ends on a cliffhanger (it will), you can tide yourself over by reading the novel, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Mr. Martin loves killing everyone we love, so be warned.

Be sure to tune in to HBO on Sundays at 9:00 PM EST to catch the on-going saga.
