'Game of Thrones' Actress to Appear in 'Elementary'

'Game of Thrones' Actress to Appear in 'Elementary' Natalie Dormer (Joffrey’s betrothed and Queen to be Margaery Tyrell on “Game of Thrones”) is set to play Sherlock’s former lover, Irene Adler, in an upcoming three-episode arc. Her death by the serial killer “M” is what pushed Sherlock into drug addiction. And her death is also what leads him to Moriarty.

Natalie Dormer will appear as Irene Adler in the final 3 episodes of season 1 of “Elementary”, making for an interesting story arch, and possibly ending in a cliffhanger as Sherlock and Joan face off against Moriarty once again.

When asked about the role of Irene, executive producer Rob Doherty said that Irene has to be “fairly unique, in that someone like Sherlock found himself attracted to her”. Sherlock has made a point up until now to not get close to anyone, especially women, so Irene would have been completely out of the ordinary in order to catch the detective’s eye. He also says that she was the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock’s life, and her appearance will push the show into a new chapter.

Irene Adler has generally been used as a love interest for Sherlock, despite only appearing in one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels. She’s worked her way into many modern day adaptations, even the latest films “Sherlock Holmes” and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”, played by Rachel McAdams, and played by Lara Pulver in the BBC’s “Sherlock”.

Natalie Dormer will make her “Elementary” debut in the episode titled “The Woman”, set to air May 9th on CBS.
