Future Movie News: Somali Pirate Movie Will Star Tom Hanks as Captain Richard Phillips

Remember back in 2009, when Somali pirates hijacked an American vessel and some Navy SEALs totally took them out?

The producing team behind "The Social Network" does, and they're working on bring an adaptation of Captain Richard Phillips' memoir A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea to theaters.

Tom Hanks has been tapped to play Captain Phillips in the movie, which will detail the events from the capture of the ship all the way up to the rescue of the crew.

The 53-year-old captain was held hostage while the rest of his crew was in hiding, and bravely refused to reveal their location. Phillips also made a bold attempt to escape the ship so that American forces could move in.

The official synopsis describes the movie: "A story of adventure and courage, it provides the intimate details of this high-seas hostage-taking–the unbearable heat, the death threats, the mock executions, and the escape attempt."

Sounds pretty exciting! Hanks, meanwhile, will appear in "Larry Crowne," due out this summer, and is also cast in the upcoming live-action Disney film "Jungle Cruise" with his "Toy Story" co-star Tim Allen.
