It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, it's not Christmas...it's Oscar season!
The nominees were announced this morning by "Star Trek" star Chris Pine, director J.J. Abrams, and Alfonso Cuaron, director of "Gravity." For the most part, the nominations fall in line with what we've seen from the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, with a few exceptions.
For one, Marion Cotillard edged out Jennifer Aniston in the Best Actress category, and Aniston will go without a nomination for her much-lauded performance in "Cake." Also getting snubbed is David Oyeolowo, who plays Martin Luther King Jr. in "Selma," and Amy Adams, who actually won a Golden Globe for her performance in "Big Eyes" but failed to get an Oscar nomination.
"Whiplash" got some good news from the Academy Awards, though, as the indie movie is nominated in major categories Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay, along with Film Editing and Sound Mixing.
