'Frozen' Director and Co-Writer to Adapt 'A Wrinkle in Time'
by Shannon KeirnanJennifer Lee, who co-wrote and directed the box office hit "Frozen," will be teaming up with Disney once more - this time to adapt the classic children's book "A Wrinkle in Time" for the big screen.
The novel, published in 1962 and written by Madeline L'Engle, follows a brother and sister, who travel through time and space in search of their missing scientist father. There are four books in the series, which was one of Lee's favorite reads while growing up.
Previously, Jeff Stockwell, who brought "Bridge to Terebithia" to the big screen, had been working on a screenplay but is no longer on the project.
Lee reportedly impressed Disney executives with her own take on the screenplay, which focuses on a strong female lead, and creatively visualizes the fantasy and sci-fi elements of the novel.
In addition to "Frozen," for which she won an Oscar, Lee also co-wrote "Wreck-It Ralph." Lee was also the first woman to direct a Disney animated feature with "Frozen." It became a major hit for the studio, bringing in over $1.3 billion.
There is not yet a director for the project. It will be produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand.
With characters under her belt like Anna and Elsa, who are helping break the mold for Disney princesses, we're willing to trust Lee with a timeless childhood classic like "A Wrinkle in Time."
What do YOU think about Lee taking on this project? What should the worlds of "A Wrinkle in Time" look like on the big screen?
