'Friends' Alum David Schwimmer Helps Apprehend Stabbing Suspect
by Shannon KeirnanWhile he may have garnered some anger from neighbors when he moved in, "Friends" actor David Schwimmer has won a few onto his side with a recent act.
Monday, Schwimmer invited the NYPD into his home, where security footage from his property was instrumental in apprehending an attack suspect.
The fight took place in the building adjacent from his condo at 5:48 a.m. Three individuals were involved. Allegedly the fight began over the issue of payment of a transgender prostitute, and a subsequent attempt to steal the apartment owner's laptop.
The fight escalated and the three crashed through the glass door of the lobby. One of the individuals suffered a stab wound to the face from a box cutter, and was treated at Bellevue Hospital. 40 stitches were required.
The alleged stabber was arrested, but the third suspect fled the scene. Thanks in part to Schwimmer's footage, as all the police had previously were verbal accounts of the scuffle, he was apprehended. Robert Rainey, 21, of Newark, is held on $20,000 bail.
In 2012, Schwimmer bought his condo for $4 million, and massively renovated the 160-year-old home. It angered those living around him.
"Four years ago I would say David Schwimmer was the least popular guy on the block with the construction and all," said neighbor Jayson Fillermutter. "But he has turned out to be a decent neighbor, and I'm glad to hear he helped the cops with that stabbing."
Ross-a-Tron to the rescue.
