Fran Drescher of 'The Nanny' Marries the Inventor of Email
by Shannon KeirnanLove has certainly been in the air this summer! Mark one more celebrity down as getting hitched under the wire, as fall creeps in.
Fran Drescher of "The Nanny" fame has married Shiva Ayyadurai, who holds the patent for email. Yes, seriously.
The 56-year-old actress married her 50-year-old boyfriend of one year at their beach home, among a small group of friends and family. The ever-gorgeous Drescher wore a stunning red Badgley Mischka wedding gown, and Ayyardurai looked impressive in a white Ralph Lauren suit.
"Surprise!!!!! We got married!" Drescher tweeted on Sunday, with a photo of her new husband. Charles Shaugnessey (a.k.a. Mr. Sheffield) was, of course, in attendence, along with "Happily Divorced" co-star Tichina Arnold, who "sang beautifully."
Drescher and Ayyardurai met at an event hosted by Deepak Chopra, where scientist Ayyardurai was giving a talk.
"Fran heard my talk and we fell in love, and we've been together since that talk," he has said. "Every day is a celebration with Fran. Every day is almost a romantic hangout with her. We're always laughing, always enjoying ourselves."
This is the second marriage for "Cancer Schmancer" author Drescher. Previously, she was wed to her production partner Peter Marc Jacobson. The two were married for 21 years before divorcing in 1999, when Jacobson came out as gay.
Still friendly and working professionally, the two recently turned their marriage experience into the TV Land series, "Happily Divorced."
Congratulations to the happy couple!
