FOX Renews 'New Girl,' 'Mindy Project,' 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' 'Following'
by EGFOX has eased some of the uncertainty surrounding its Tuesday night comedies, giving renewals to three of the night's sitcoms (plus one Saturday-night drama). That's somewhat surprising—but good—news for at least a couple of the shows.
The network announced that "New Girl," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Mindy Project" and "The Following" will all be coming back next season. Ratings for "New Girl" this season have been somewhat soft compared to the show's first two seasons, but it does very well in time-shifted viewing. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has been an inconsistent performer, but it does better than any other live-action sitcom on the network except for "New Girl."
Renewal of "The Mindy Project" is a bit more difficult to explain, given that it underperforms compared to the other two comedies and it's been on hiatus for several weeks. But the show has seen consistent support from the network since its debut last season, getting early orders for both a full first season and a second-season renewal despite disappointing ratings from the beginning.
"The Following" has been even more of a wild card. Its ratings for this season have been down compared to last season, but over the past couple of weeks it seems to have been enjoying something of a rebound.
FOX has yet to announce the fates of "Raising Hope," which is in serious danger of being cancelled, or "Dads," which is on hiatus and is probably not coming back.
