Four Entertainment Weekly Covers Preview Upcoming 'The Walking Dead' Return
by Sean ComerIt's a wonderful week to love the dead.
With August nearly done, only about two months separates fans from the hotly anticipated third season of AMC's "The Walking Dead" in October. Not that getting fans talking up the grim hit drama takes much, but Entertainment Weekly is enticing followers of the Walkers to check out an exclusive preview with four character covers to this week's sneak-peek issue with creator Robert Kirkman.
It wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to call this possibly the biggest season yet, featuring some significant callbacks to Kirkman's successful comic series of the same name. After an appearance at the tail end of the second season, blade-wielding slayer of Walkers Michonne (Danai Gurira) steps into the spotlight with her "pets" in tow, as Rick Grimes and the band of survivors enter the stronghold of the Prison.
According to Kirkman, though, it all comes back to two men's worlds: Grimes' of the Prison and the Governor's (David Morrissey) of nearby Woodbury, Ga.
"This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide," Kirkman told EW. "And you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything."
Grimes wields his pistol. The Governor, a blade. Between them, the Dixons pack a crossbow and whatever lovely hardware that is that it appears Merle has procured to take his lost hand's place. Michonne has her armless, jawless friends and her blade.
Something's going to have to give Oct. 14, when the third season debuts on AMC.
