The Force is Strong with Disney: 'Star Wars' Standalone Films Confirmed

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed in an interview with CNBC that there are a few more “Star Wars” films in the works than originally expected.

“I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.”

It was recently revealed that J.J. Abrams is set to direct these new films, but both he and producer Kathleen Kennedy have hinted that Iger’s quoted 2015 release date for “Star Wars Episode VII” might be somewhat of a dream.

There have been rumors that the first standalone film might be focused on Yoda, but they have gone unaddressed for now.

What kind of characters would you hope to see get a feature film? It’s well known that the “Star Wars” universe is vast and seemingly endless, so would you want to see a film ‘wasted’ on Yoda?

Either way, be on the lookout for the upcoming expansion of the “Star Wars” saga, hopefully (or not) hitting theaters some time in 2015.
