Football Continues to be America's Favorite But Desperate Housewives is Getting Interesting

NBC's Sunday Night Football It was a matchup made in football heaven. The game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and their arch rival, the Baltimore Ravens, promised to be a hard-hitting tough game on NBC's Sunday Night Football. Not only did the two teams deliver on that promise with a close 13-10 game, the game was number one in the Nielsen ratings for the week of Nov. 29 with more than 21 million viewers. It's closest competitor for the week, CBS's NCIS, paled in comparison with just 15 million viewers.

The popular Desperate Housewives, which comes on opposite the football game, could only muster about half the viewers with 11.4 million despite revelations from Vanessa Williams' character Renee that she was in love with Lynette's husband in the episode titled "Pleasant Little Kingdom." Of course, Lynette doesn't know this (but Susan does)  setting up some interesting episodes for February sweeps. Just a few years ago Desperate Housewives sat atop the ratings but is being unseated by football games.

Now in it's fifth season, Sunday Night Football has snared some of this year's most interesting games including a recent loss by the Indianapolis Colt to the San Diego Charges which was part of a three-game streak of dismal performances from the Colts' star quarterback Peyton Manning. The show even beat favorite Dancing with the Stars the week of Nov. 15 with Peyton's little brother, Eli,and the New York Giants losing to the  Philadelphia Eagles.

Look for another intense game this Sunday as the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles have been soaring with Mike Vick in the quarterback position while the Cowboys have struggled this year and experienced a mid-season coaching change. With Desperate Housewives airing another new episode titled "Down The Block There's a Riot," will the ratings for Sunday Night Football continue to dominate?
