'Fixer Upper' Stars Aren't Ruling Out a New Series

Last week, we pointed out a report that said Chip and Joanna Gaines ended their series Fixer Upper because they were unhappy with their contract at HGTV. A source said the Gainses would do another series if the price was right. Chip and Joanna immediately denied that claim, saying they were ending the series for personal and family reasons. Now in a new interview, Chip Gaines says they'd do a series again "in a heartbeat," raising hope that the Gainses might be back on the air again soon.

Chip and Joanna Gaines thought HGTV stardom would be easy money, not realizing the restrictions of their contracts and the work they’d have to put in to make “Fixer Upper” successful, but they’d do it all again.

“Nobody knows [how much work it is] when you get into something like this,” Chip, 42, told “Today” on Tuesday. “I’m an idiot, I thought this was like a get rich quick scheme — I thought I could work about eight hours a month, and at the end of it, you get all these riches. Unfortunately, it’s not quite that easy. The emotion and the amount of energy it takes to pour something like this together — who knows? I can’t speak on anyone else’s behalf, but Jo and I, every day we showed up to work we wanted this to be the real deal. We wanted it to be legit, authentic, sincere.”

He also addressed rumors of marital discord with his wife of 14 years as being the cause of their ending their hit show.

“I give them a little credence,” he said. “There’s always ‘What’s next?’ For us, the most important thing in the world is Jo and I’s relationship, followed very quickly by these four beautiful kids. We didn’t want to push it, redline it for so long that we woke up and realized we are at a point of no return. We wanted to take a step back and focus on the thing that was absolutely the most important thing to us in the world.”

He added, “People in our inner circle, I tell them we’re as healthy as we’ve ever been, I just didn’t want to keep pushing this envelope to the fullest extent. We’re really thankful that we had the opportunity to step back and take a break.”

The Gaineses announced last month that they’re ending their run on “Fixer Upper” after season 5, which premieres in November. However, despite the tolls of filming their TV show, Chip is game to do television again.

“Who knows? We’re so excited about this break. But would we go back and do this again? Absolutely. In a heartbeat,” he said.
