First Video From 'The Wolverine' Showcases POW Set
by Sean ComerIt could very well just be me, but no major licensed-property motion picture quite feels "official" until that first unmistakable still or video hits the Internet.
Today, I can officially begin my skepticism toward 20th Century Fox taking another stab at a successful take on Wolverine.
It's not much, but our first look at 2013's "The Wolverine" comes from a local TV station's report from Kurnell, Australia's on-location shooting near Sydney. Australian native son Hugh Jackman is making his sixth appearance as the ill-tempered X-Man - yep, counting his few seconds in 2011's "X-Men: First Class" - and there's no shortage of local fangasms going around. Just as importantly, the station nabbed aerial shots of the beach set described as a Japanese POW camp.
This go-round is indeed to be set largely in the Land of the Rising Sun, where Logan takes up with a samurai warrior to seek some inner peace from his past. Inevitably, he runs afoul of the warrior Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee) and according to rumor, the treacherous and weapon-proficient Viper. A few weeks ago, rumors went afloat that Jessica Biel looked to be a "get" to play Viper, but since talks fell through not long after San Diego Comic-Con, IMDb.com now lists Svetlana Khodchenkova as now "rumored" for the role.
Via Twitter, Jackman himself said, "We're on day 1 of shooting. Wolverine is back... feel so pumped about this one... never felt so ready!!! will keep y'all posted!!!"
Directed by James Mangold, "The Wolverine" should hit theaters July 26, 2013.
