First Trailer for 'Snowden' Movie Is Here
by Andy Neuenschwander
The first trailer for the movie about "the most wanted man in the world" is here.
On the heels of "Citizenfour" comes "Snowden," a biopic about NSA contractor Edward Snowden directed by Oliver Stone and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Interestingly, we've seen photos of Levitt as Snowden before, but this trailer doesn't feature any footage from the movie.
Instead, the trailer is just a teaser with a brief summary of Snowden's career. As an ethereal version of "This Little Light of Mine" plays, the trailer notes how Snowden was an army recruit at 20, joined the CIA at 22, worked for the NSA at 24, and became "the most wanted man in the world" at 29.
The trailer also features an upside-down American flag that reads, "One Nation Under Surveillance For Liberty And Justice For All." It's a bold stance, but it's likely that those planning on seeing the movie are already pro-Snowden and not particularly happy with the U.S. government.
The movie will be a star-studded event with Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage and Zachary Quinto also in the cast. Hopefully the next trailer offers a look at some of them in character.
