First Look: Chloe Moretz Revives The Most Famous 'Carrie' Moment
by Sean ComerChloƫ Moretz looks to be just the fit needed to fill Sissy Spacek's prom dress in the upcoming remake of 1976's "Carrie."
Spacek made a horror icon of herself with her telekinetic hissy fit in Brian DePalma's Stephen King adaptation, playing a socially awkward teen doused with pig blood at the moment she's crowned queen of what's fated to be the worst prom ever. Entertainment Weekly has the first official still so far of Moretz from the 2013 remake, and Moretz looks to be a good torch-bearer for Spacek's role.
The 15-year-old previous star of "Let Me In," "Hugo," "Kick-Ass" and Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" absolutely has the range, to be certain. She can convey the meekness Carrie White has to belie throughout the first two acts or so, in order for the telekinetic, murderous fireworks at the end to be appropriately jarring.
From the looks of it, Moretz is channeling every bit of Spacek's saucer-eyed snap, right down to the tragic "What have I done?" terror, if this is indeed a snap of Carrie after her rampage.
Across from Moretz, Julianne Moore will play Carrie's mother, who uses strict Christian fundamentalism to justify constant vicious emotional and physical abuse of her daughter - the result of, according to Moore herself, "a psychotic break, probably several."
The remake hits theaters March 13, 2013.
