Find Out Why Benedict Cumberbatch Is 'Completely Terrified' of the Word 'Penguin'

Find Out Why Benedict Cumberbatch Is 'Completely Terrified' of the Word 'Penguin' Benedict Cumberbatch has a voice that earned him a role as Smaug in "The Hobbit." But there's one word he fully admits that he's terrified of saying.

On "The Graham Norton Show," host Graham Norton brought out some viewer questions to ask of the "Sherlock" star. Most of them Cumberbatch answered without hesitation, but one caught him a bit off guard.

"Of all the questions we had," Norton said, "the one that came up most often was, 'Ask Benedict to say the word penguin.' What is this about?"

"Apparently I got it wrong repeatedly in a documentary," Cumberbatch explained. "It wasn't a documentary about...said animal...and now I'm completely terrified of the word."

From there, Norton revealed that they had the clip from the documentary queued up. "The first one you sort of get away with," Norton says, "and then after that you lose all sense of the word."

Sure enough, in the documentary "Strange Island," Cumberbatch calls penguins everything from "pengwings" to "pinglings," apparently without anyone stopping to correct him.

Of course, we'll give Cumberbatch a pass on the whole penguin thing. After all, he is Sherlock Holmes, and he very well might win an Oscar this year for his upcoming role in "The Imitation Game." Plus, there are rumors swirling that the British actor will be taking on the role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel superhero flick.
