Hollyweird News: Final Cut Copy of 'The Beaver' Stolen from Mel Gibson's Mail Box

What a strange thing to steal. Mel Gibson’s final cut copy of “The Beaver” was stolen from his mailbox at his Malibu home on Wednesday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident according to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Mel Gibson received the final cut copy of “The Beaver” from Summit Entertainment and after screening the film, he placed it at his mailbox for the courier to pick up.

According to Lieutenant Rich Erickson of the Malibu/Lost Hills Station, “When the courier came to pick it up on Wednesday between 10:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. it wasn't there. They went out to check, and apparently someone prior to the courier took it out of the mailbox and made off with it.”

Erickson also said that the DVD cost only $10, and they are treating the incident  as “petty theft at this point." Weird petty theft at that.

The police officer also added that the incident is misdemeanor. "A detective is assigned to the case, and will do some follow up," added Erickson.

“The Beaver” is a story about a depressed CEO of a toy company and a troubled husband played by Mel Gibson, who tries everything to recover from hopelessness but always fails until he finds the hand puppet “The Beaver.” He rediscovers his life and communicates with his family using the hand puppet.

Academy award winner Jodie Foster directed “The Beaver” and also co-stars with Gibson as his wife in the movie, which will premiers in March at SXSW Film Festival.

Summit Entertainment will officially release “The Beaver” in a limited run in theaters in the United States on March 23.
