Will Ferrell-Produced NBC Sitcom Canceled Before It Even Airs

Will Ferrell-Produced NBC Sitcom Canceled Before It Even Airs It's official: the first show of the 2014-15 TV season has been cancelled. The thing is, it hasn't even premiered yet!

NBC has cancelled its half-hour comedy "Mission Control" well before its midseason debut after rumors of recasting issues surfaced around the show.

"Mission Control" was executive produced by Will Ferrell and featured "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23" and "Breaking Bad" star Krysten Ritter as a woman working for NASA in the 1960's during the Space Race.

The show sounded promising, with David Hornsby of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fame penning the pilot, but sources close to the production say that a number of roles had to be recast and ultimately NBC decided it was best to just cancel the show outright.

"Mission Control" was the first pilot series to be canceled, though Fox ended up dropping two shows that it picked up straight to series: "Emerald City" and "Heiroglyph," the latter likely due to the necessary budget to shoot a show set in ancient Egypt.

NBC still has a promising set of midseason programs, including the final season of "Parks & Recreation." New shows will include the Ellen DeGeneres-produced "One Big Happy," a show from "The Office" star Craig Robinson titled "Mr. Robinson," and a new show from Tina Fey in a post-"30 Rock" world called "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
