'Fast & Furious' Star Paul Walker Dies in Crash
by EGActor Paul Walker, who starred in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, died in a car crash Saturday afternoon in southern California. Also killed in the one-car crash was the driver of the Porsche Carrera GT, Roger Rodas, the CEO of a company owned by Walker.
Walker had roles in the films "Varsity Blues" and "She's All That" before appearing in "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001; he played O'Connor, an undercover cop. He appeared in all of the rest of the films in the franchise except for the third installment and was in the process of shooting the next film, "Fast & Furious 7," although he was on a break from shooting when the accident occurred.
The LA County Sheriff's Department reports that the crash happened around 3:30 pm on Saturday, and speed appears to have been a factor. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal newspaper quotes a man who claims to be a friend of Walker's that Walker and Rodas had gone on a "joyride" during a charity event. According to the man, attendees at the event heard the crash and rushed to the scene but were unable to free Walker or Rodas from the burning wreckage.
Walker was 40 years old. He is survived by a 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
