MTV Tournament Decides Favorite 'Harry Potter' Character

A fan poll conducted by MTV has determined which character is the ultimate fan favorite in the "Harry Potter" universe...and who is it might surprise you!

To call what MTV did a "poll" is a bit of an understatement. Really, it was more of a tournament, and they called it the "Harry Potter World Cup." The characters were pitted against each other in one-on-one matches in a bracket, with fans voting on each matchup. The winner would advance until finally one character emerged victorious.

Ultimately, the final round came down to an interesting matchup: Ron Weasley versus Severus Snape. Harry Potter himself didn't get anywhere near the final, as Snape took him out in the early rounds.

So who won? The Potions master/DA teacher/brief Hogwarts headmaster won out, defeating Ron and taking the title. MTV even took a (comically large) trophy to the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" premiere and presented it to Alan Rickman, who plays Snape in the films.

Those who have already read the books (or seen the final film) know why Snape might have a soft spot in fans' hearts. Plus, Alan Rickman is the man.

Check out the video below to watch a very surprised (and unimpressed) Rickman awkwardly take the trophy and talk a bit about Snape and his experience playing the role.
