In school, Chris’ classmates make fun of his off-brand, cheap shoes.
Lois and Stewie drive home after a birthday party he was forced to attend. They put on the radio, and Stewie hears Anne Murray for the first time, and falls in love with her music.
Peter and Lois watch TV when Chris tells them he needs new sneakers. Lois says they can’t afford anything like that, and money is really tight right now.
In his room, Stewie loads up on more Anne Murray music, proclaiming his love for her.
Later that night, Chris sneaks into his parents’ room and steals money from Lois’ purse, but Meg catches him.
Meg confronts him and tells him she’s going to blackmail him. Chris promises to do whatever Meg wants in exchange for her silence.
Stewie listens to more Anne Murray when Brian overhears. He tells him how awful her music is, and that he shouldn’t listen to her. Stewie vows to make Brian a true believer.
Chris does Meg’s homework and cleans her room. But he isn’t free to go yet. She forces him to watch “An Officer and a Gentleman” with her. Then she makes Chris put her contacts in, since she can’t do it herself. It doesn’t end well.
Stewie sets up a stage in his room and has Brian take a seat amongst his stuffed animal audience, and he performs one of Anne Murray’s songs for him. Brian is moved to tears, recalling his puppyhood.
Exhausted, Chris is tired of being Meg’s slave, so he quits. She says she’s going to tell, and he says he doesn’t care anymore, and that he’s running away.
Chris goes to the only place he knows will take him: Mr. Herbert’s house. Mr. Herbert graciously takes him in.
Stewie and Brian listen to “Snowbird” by Anne Murray, and they get into an argument over the meaning of the lyrics. Brian views it negatively, Stewie views it positively. They say the only way to know for sure is to ask Anne Murray herself.
Meg tries to cover up the fact that Chris ran away.
Mr. Herbert is slowing realizing that Chris isn’t the dream boy he thought he was.
Stewie and Brian go to Anne Murray’s house. They introduce themselves to her and she invites them in. They ask her about “Snowbird”, and she says that they are both right, and offers them her own interpretation of it, which blows their mind.
Brian excuses himself to use the restroom, and she reveals to Stewie she didn’t write the song, or any of her songs. Stewie calls her a liar and ties her up. Brian comes back and tells him that most singers don’t write their own music. It doesn’t change anything.
Meg visits Carl at the gas station and asks if he has seen Chris, but he hasn’t.
At Mr. Herbert’s, he grows sick of Chris being so lazy. He kicks him out.
Meg runs into him in the street and apologizes for blackmailing him and asks him to move back home. They forgive each other and hug.
The episode ends without concluding what happened to the tied up Anne Murray.
