'Family Guy' Season 10, Episode 7 Recap - 'Amish Guy'

'Family Guy' Season 10, Episode 7 Recap - 'Amish Guy' It's a Meg episode, everybody.

You have to wonder why "Family Guy" keeps going back to this storyline: Meg meets a guy, falls immediately in love with him, he actually loves her back, then Peter does something to get in the way and things don't work out in the end. We've seen this before, but this time it's all set in Amish country.

See, the Griffins got stranded on the way back from Six Flags because the radiator broke, so they stay at an Amish inn for a couple of days. There, Meg falls in love with Eli, the son of the innkeeper.

However, things don't go so well when Eli's father accuses Meg of corrupting his son, and Peter doesn't do much to help (in fact, he starts singing "Highway to Hell").

That starts an inexplicable battle between Peter, Joe and Quagmire with their technology versus the Amish and their "wooden stuff." No, it doesn't make any sense. Little of this episode did. But it's still kinda fun to watch the Amish guys rebuild their barn after it gets blown up again and again.

"Amish Guy" was one of those episodes that sits in the middle of the season as a placeholder. It doesn't do anything to wow you, but it's not unwatchable either. There's really nothing new here: Amish jokes are about as played-out as can be, and nobody is interested in seeing another Meg relationship, especially when it only lasts for the episode and doesn't advance her character in the slightest.

Is this what Meg is reduced to? Being a doormat and occasionally having a one-episode romance with no stakes attached to it? We saw some interesting stuff with her back in the hurricane episode, but little to none of that seems to have carried over. Here's hoping for more Brian and Stewie going forward... or what about a Lois episode?

Cut-aways of the week:

-Great Aunt Legs Go All the Way Up Griffin: B-, purely for absurdity

-Ricey Ricey Rice, No One Likes Rice Cakes: C-, the bit with Peter was fine but the cut-away didn't add much (and was kinda racist)

-The Wright brothers' ex-girlfriends: B, nice second beat

-Cobra's brand recognition: B, nice angle on territory well worn by "Robot Chicken"

-Youth hostel jokes: C, not sure how relatable that is

-Stuck behind Giraffe at ballgame: C-, points for absurdity but little to no punchline
