'Family Guy' Season 10, Episode 13 Recap - 'Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream'
by Andy Neuenschwander"Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream" is an episode that only an industry insider could have written, which by default means that it's also an episode that will probably only be fully appreciated by industry insiders as well. "Family Guy" has a way of indicating where their jokes are that make it accessible to everyone, but in this Hollywood tale, most of the humor comes from bashing agents and the hoops that actors jump through to make it in the business.
It all starts when Peter discovers that Tom Tucker played Michael Myers in "Halloween IV," which is Peter's favorite movie of all time ("The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" is his favorite period piece, though). That leads Peter to convince Tom to move out to Hollywood with Peter as his agent, to attempt to re-launch Tom's career.
Things start out well enough: Peter's fairly accurate imitation of an agent (poor table manners and air of entitlement, according to a nearby casting director) lands Tom a small network role, and his career is back on track. But when James Woods shows up, he lures Peter away from Tom and Peter eventually drops him to focus on Woods. Then, of course, Woods fires him. Because he's James Woods.
Side note: James Woods was stabbed in that murder mystery episode, but was brought back to like thanks to special treatment at a Hollywood hospital and the life force of a 17-year-old ingenue. Diane Simmons is, presumably, still dead. I wonder if Adam West would have counted as a celebrity?
Meanwhile, Chris starts dating a girl named Lindsey who looks remarkably similar to Lois, which causes Lois to ignore her abrasive personality. Only Stewie and Brian notice it at first ("...getting a little Oedipussy." "Can we say that?" "Just did."), but when Lois catches Lindsey making out with another guy, she finally gets the hint. That leads to a conversation with Chris about how he thinks he needs someone like Lois, because she puts up with Peter and Chris needs someone to put up with him. Poor Chris. We still hate Meg, though.
Eventually Peter and Tom make up and move back to Quahog, and all is back to normal. Plus, Quagmire gets to dress Lindsey up as Lois, which is a huge improvement over Mort.
