'Falling Skies' Season 1, Episode 7 'Sanctuary Part 2' Recap

'Falling Skies' Season 1, Episode 7 'Sanctuary Part 2' Recap The obviously evil Clayton wasn't fooling anybody last week, except of course for the sadly oblivious characters in "Falling Skies." The end of last week's ep saw Clayton trading a kid over to the skitters, but in exchange for what was still uncertain.

That's all answered in this second-part episode as everybody finally catches on to the fact that Clayton's story of basically everyone in his unit being wiped out except for him was kind of sketchy.

After some dawdling around at the cabin, Lourdes finds a backpack belonging to the kid who ran off with his crazy dad after robbing Anne. Mike is determined to get to the bottom of this (and for once not do something stupid), but totally does something stupid. Again. Seriously, if you're going to rummage through the cabin for evidence, don't get caught by the suspect.

Clayton explains that his unit discovered that the skitters just wanted the kids, and if they got them then they would leave everyone else alone. That lead to the current trade-off system, which Clayton also happily explains to Mike. Apparently he trusts this guy enough to reveal his brutally evil plan to a man whose own kid was harnessed.

Mike of course tells Hal, but only later at night. Why the long wait, Mike? Oh, right, because you haven't made a good decision yet on this show. But at least when everyone is escaping, Mike stays behind to hold off the pursuers...that is, until he gets shot. It's off-screen, so there's no confirmation, but let's hope he's gone. One too many dumb choices, Mike.

Luckily, Pope got out of there earlier with a bit of a bad-ass moment...he even managed to make a quip about society before scampering off. And even more luckily, Tom decided to go check the rendezvous point, which was of course empty.

I say luckily, because this squad lead by Hal and Lourdes needs some serious help. Lourdes actually starts playing piano while they're hiding out from Clayton. Bitch we are trying to hide! Quietly!

Of course Clayton finds them, but Pope manages to show up (guess he's a full-on good guy now) and holds the squad off until Tom shows up as well. Pope even gets shot in the leg. Dude's had a rough week. Clayton and his gang of child thieves retreat to the sanctuary, but Weaver et al are waiting...and when Clayton tries to go all quick-draw on Hal, Tom shoots him dead. Well, so much for that guest star.

The rest of the episode is dedicated to the birth of Sarah's baby. Who? Sarah, the pregnant lady that Margaret's all buddy-buddy with. Right. I forgot she existed too. Anyway, Weaver somehow knows how to deliver a baby better than Anne and that ends up all good. I suppose the point is to bring in a new life as 2nd Mass has a funeral for Mike. Circle of life and all. Hakuna Matata.

The question left open is this: what the eff is Ricky's problem? Apparently he was harnessed too long, because he's acting even creepier than Ben is now, with all this "our skitter family" stuff. Look for that to develop as the season goes on.
