Fall TV: New Series on NBC

NBC is pulling out all the stops with its fall 2016 schedule, with a dozen new series debuting. The new series are a mixture of new franchise entries, star vehicles, movie adaptations and original stories.

With some of its new series, the network will build on its own established properties. The Blacklist will get a spinoff in The Blacklist: Redemption, and Chicago Justice becomes the legal-drama piece in the network's Chicago-based stable that already includes Chicago Fire and Chicago Med.

NBC will also be tapping into broader franchises. Powerless is a comedy starring Vanessa Hudgens which is set in the DC comics universe, and the fantasy drama Emerald City retells the story of The Wizard of Oz.

Another movie adaptation coming to NBC's schedule is Taken, a prequel to the movie franchise starring Liam Neeson, who will not appear in the series.

Other new drama series include the supernatural drama Midnight, Texas, the comedy drama This is Us, and the time-travel fantasy Timeless.

In addition to Powerless, NBC will debut four more comedy series. The Good Place stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, Great News is executive produced by Tina Fey, Marlon is a vehicle for Marlon Wayans, and Trial & Error stars John Lithgow and Nicholas D’Agosto of Gotham.
