Fall TV: New Series on FOX
by EG
FOX's schedule for the fall of 2016 is heavy on nostalgia and drama and relatively light on comedy, a situation that isn't likely to improve the network's struggle to pull in more viewers for its comedy series.
The network's fall schedule includes two TV series adaptations of theatrical movies, the newest of which hit theaters back in 1987. That would be Lethal Weapon, the action flick starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover; the new FOX version will star Clayne Crawford and Daymon Wayans, Sr. The other film reboot is The Exorcist, which turns the 1973 horror movie into supernatural series starring Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels and Geena Davis.
FOX will also be looking backward to one of its own hits from the past, 24. The new series, 24: Legacy, will not include Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer. Also of note among the network's new dramas is Star, a new music-industry drama from Empire producer Lee Daniels.
The network will introduce only three new comedy series. They include Son of Zorn, a live action/animation combo fantasy featuring the voice of Jason Sudeikis; The Mick, about a con artist stuck taking care of her sister's kids; and Making History, about three time-traveling buddies.
