Fall TV: New Series on CBS

Fall TV: New Series on CBS

The fall 2016 schedule on CBS will feature some well-known names in new series, as well as some nods to the past. Five new dramas and three new comedy series are on the network's fall schedule, joining a nearly full slate of returning freshman series from last season.

The new dramas include Bull, a drama based on the life and career of Dr. Phil McGraw. McGraw, who has had a successful reality/talk show since 2002, will be producing this fictional account of himself. There's also Doubt, a legal drama starring Katherine Heigl, and Pure Genius, a medical drama from the producer of Parenthood.

The trend of retooling old properties for new TV series, which is raging across all broadcast networks at the moment, has hit CBS, too. MacGyver, a new version of the 1980s action series, and Training Day, a series adaptation of the 2001 theatrical film, will debut on the network in the fall.

The new CBS comedies are all vehicles for recognized stars. Kevin Can Wait stars Kevin James as a retired cop, The Great Indoors stars Joel McHale as a writer trying to make it in today's high-tech world, and Man with a Plan stars Matt LeBlanc as a wacky family man.
