Episode 'The Voice' Season 1, Episode 12 - 'The Final Results Show' Recap

Episode 'The Voice' Season 1, Episode 12 - 'The Final Results Show' Recap The votes have been cast, and after a fantastic final results show, the winner of the first season of "The Voice" was announced. Was it Javier Colon, Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez or Dia Frampton?

The live finale results show begins, and I'll be darned if Carson Daly isn't actually enthusiastic tonight! He introduces the judges, revealing that Cee Lo is actually wearing more bling than Christina.

Carson also brings out the contestants with bravado, as Javier, Beverly, Vicci and Dia come to the stage. Carson seems excited about half of the four guest performers, as Miranda Lambert and Stevie Nicks are here, but so are the lead singers of Train and One Republic. Well, now I know when to go make a sandwich.

Carson throws us to a clip of the four performers meeting Jay Leno. Vicci very unconvincingly says that she's always wanted to be on Leno's show. Too bad they should be on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien," eh?

We get a look back at Vicci's path to the finals, including her blind audition which turned Cee Lo and Christina. She really has grown a lot since then as a performer...as she puts it, decked out in her "Love is a Battlefield" getup, "Cee Lo has really rubbed off on me. I mean, look at me."

Vicci performs "Drops of Jupiter" with Pat Monahan, lead singer of Train. Totally not the right kind of song for her...I would have paired her with Stevie Nicks. Then again, I wouldn't have paired anyone with Pat Monahan. She gets a little inspirational speech from Cee Lo at the end of it. Does she cry? Not quite. The Cry Counter™ is still at zero for this episode.

Javier is the next artist to get a clip package, and we get a look back at his journey, starting with his blind audition that turned all four coaches.

Javier is paired up with Stevie Nicks for their performance of, what else, "Landslide." It's seriously a weird matchup, with Stevie's reedy voice under Javier's clear, bright tone. Also, Javier sings higher than Ms. Nicks. But still, there's no doubt that it's a great duet with two great singers. Adam says that's probably the coolest thing Javier's ever done, other than have kids. Adam also says he's not going to cry, but he kinda cries. We'll set the Cry Counter™ at 1/2.

The next clip package recaps Beverly's path to the finals as the oldest singer in the competition. Beverly will be singing with One Republic's Ryan Tedder. Beverly's got her usual crazy getup going. She looks like she's ready for a rainstorm. There's a little too much wailing during the chorus for my liking, but as always Beverly gives an energetic performance.

Christina praises Beverly, and also turns to her fellow coaches and thanks them for their support, saying that they're like the big brothers she never had. That was surprising, and also kinda sweet. Can we still pretend that she and Adam hate each other? It's more fun that way.

The last contestant to perform is audience fav Dia, whose single has been the most downloaded on iTunes today. We get a look back her creative cover songs before she starts her duet with Miranda Lambert. Dia starts in with her usual breathy style, but actually gets a little country with it later on. Blake, who is watching his finalist duet with his wife, seems to be enjoying it. It's a nice duet, and the two of them blend pretty well.

Blake gets a little choked up, giving a speech about how Dia is family to him now. Considering she just sang with his wife, that's a fair assessment.

Results time! Carson is still enthusiastic. The audience is on their feet. Beverly has a cane? Carson notes that the voting was so close that the top two were within only 2% of each other. That's code for Javier and Dia are damn near tied. Carson decides to Seacrest this out a bit announce the top two first, and sure enough, it's Dia and Javier.

Carson's beginning to get impatient with the cheering, looks like his enthusiasm is waning. Carson notes that Javier hit #2 on iTunes, and Dia hit #1...that's important as downloads count as votes.

But once the rest of the voting was factored in, the winner is Javier! He was a favorite from the beginning, but honestly I'm still a bit surprised that he won, considering all the support Dia was getting on iTunes.

Javier starts full-on crying, so we can finally put a point on that Cry Counter™, setting it at 1. And of course, the total tally of crying moments for the season is...I dunno, maybe 8,342?

So congratulations to Javier. Of course, all of the finalists will undoubtedly get record contracts, and in fact all four finalists and the four semifinalists will be hitting the road for a summer tour. But Javier does get an extra $100,000. So that's pretty cool.

That's it for the first-ever season of "The Voice" (state-side at least). Be sure to tune in again this winter when the second season of the vocal competition show that I maintain is better than "American Idol" starts.

Winner: Javier Colon
