Episode 'Modern Family' Season 2, Episode 23 - 'See You Next Fall' Recap

Phil is on a mission: get Claire to have a meltdown about Alex's graduation today, so that she won't do it tomorrow and keep him from going to Vegas. That involves pulling out all the stops to try to make her cry about Alex moving on to high school, but even "You know what else is sad? The end of 'Titanic'" doesn't work.

Jay got botox. That's pretty much all you need to know there. He's here to provide reactions from everyone throughout the episode, as the botched job makes him look like Two-Face.

Mitchell is in the doghouse with Cam after he laughs at Cam falling into a kiddie pool. Everyone gets on Mitchell's case for it...until Cam runs into the sliding door. Really, this storyline is just an excuse for Eric Stonestreet to do some physical comedy, and for that we're thankful.

Nobody's laughing later, though, when everyone gets locked into Jay's driveway. Phil and Claire grab a tandem bike and hit the road, but Luke manages to open the gate with his mind. No, seriously.

But Alex and Haley are the stars of the episode. Alex plans on giving a very honest valedictorian speech and sarcastically chastising everyone for treating her like she didn't exist for the past few years. Haley maintains that it's a bad idea, but Alex won't listen. Eventually Haley convinces her, though: "Everyone has their stuff," she says and admits that she's failing classes and worried about college. It's just in time, too, as it's time for Alex's speech (with Phil and Claire scrambling down a hill). Alex wings it rather adeptly...and adds in some song quotes to boot.

The episode felt a little disjointed, and lacked a real "awwww" moment, though it's always kind of nice to see Haley and Alex both getting along and getting some funny lines.
