Episode 'Glee' Season 2, Episode 20 - 'Prom Queen' Recap

Episode 'Glee' Season 2, Episode 20 - 'Prom Queen' Recap Prom night is coming up, and I just have one question: why are the only people up for Prom King and Queen from the Glee club?

Anyway, Mercedes wants a date but nobody has asked her, so Rachel has a plan: pay Sam to take the both of them. Okay, so she doesn't really pay him, but they do have a "prom budget." I can't decide if the whole thing is really cute or just plain weird.

Kurt officially asks Blaine, but Blaine is uncomfortable with going. It turns out that he went to a dance with a guy at his old school, and the two of them got beat up by bullies. He agrees to go with Kurt though. I did see that "Poor Kurt" was trending on Twitter during the East Coast airing of this show. Is something horrible going to happen?

Puck tries to recruit Artie to spike the punch so that they can be cool. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the useless storyline of the episode.

Rachel's going to sing "Rolling in the Deep" for us. This song has made appearances on "American Idol" and "The Voice" already...you're a little late, "Glee." Jesse shows up to make it a duet. But more importantly: whoa, the audio-visual club can sing backup?

Looks like Jesse wants to tag along on the Rachel/Sam/Mercedes budget prom. Finn doesn't trust him. Duh. He threw eggs.

Artie prom-proposes to Brittany in the middle of cooking class. Apparently the teachers in this school don't have any control over their class time.

Kurt's prom outfit is downright ridiculous. I wasn't aware kilts are in fashion. Both Burt and Blaine thinks it's a bad idea and Kurt's just looking to "stir the pot." But Kurt might be okay...he notes that people aren't being outwardly cruel anymore. Karofsky actually has a sincere moment of regret, too. Are things looking up for Kurt?

It's prom time, and the first performance from the New Directions is..."Friday." Okay, I'll be honest with you guys. I listened to the first 30 seconds of this and skipped the rest. I don't need that in my head for another month. So if anything terribly important happened during that song...well, I apologize. A man has to draw the line somewhere.

Artie gets totally busted spiking the punch, and is "the worst POW ever" when Sue tries to interrogate him. Fortunately, Artie gets saved from a teeth cleaning by a fight...unfortunately, it's a fight between Finn and Jesse. They're both kicked out.

And now for the results...oh, it looks like there were other people on the Prom Court. They're just unimportant. If you were one of the unfortunate folks who read the spoiler that hit the internet a few weeks ago, you already know the result: Karofsky is king, Kurt is queen. Kurt runs out...well, it's probably good that he didn't go up there smiling and waving and make a speech.

Kurt's upset that the hate is still out there, it's just "by secret ballot." Quinn, meanwhile, is pissed enough to slap Rachel. Santana is...well, she's being Santana. But it just wouldn't be prom without a lot of crying.

Kurt's speech? "Eat your heart out, Kate Middleton." Kurt pushes Karofsky to take the moment to come out, but he chickens out. Enough drama for one night, I suppose.

Next week: Nationals!
