Emma Watson in Talks to Win Her Prince as 'Cinderella'
by Shannon KeirnanWill Emma Watson find her Prince Charming in the upcoming live-action “Cinderella?”
The 22-year-old “Perks of Being a Wallflower” actress is currently “circling” the Disney project.
The film is set to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, already has Cate Blanchett signed on to play the role of the beloved cinder girl’s evil stepmother, in a strike of really brilliant casting.
This won’t be Watson’s only foray into the world of fairy tales. She is also set to appear as the title character (not a hard guess which one) in the Guillermo del Toro-directed “Beauty and the Beast.”
“I’m doing a film with Guillermo next summer, and I went to him and said Warner Brothers have given me the script for ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ but the only way I’d really want to do it is if you did it. And then miraculously he said, ‘Oh, funnily enough ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is my favorite fairy tale, I can’t let anyone else do this, I’ll start putting a team together.’”
Fairy tale flicks seem to be all the rage since 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Last year “Snow White and the Huntsman” brought in serious cash, though its competition, “Mirror Mirror” failed to impress.
Next year will bring us Angelina Jolie in the title role in “Maleficent,” which will follow the bad queen from “Sleeping Beauty” before she got so dang evil.
“Jack the Giant Slayer,” in the mean time, is currently in theaters, has only taken in $28 million on its opening weekend—about half of what was hoped for.
Until word of Watson’s involvement in “Cinderella” is finalized, you can look forward to seeing her in June’s “Bling Ring,” a Sofia Coppola film.
